MacLean's Goes Digital

Online offerings expanded to better reach global audience

Toronto, ON, CA (October 6, 2005) - Maclean's, the magazine that enjoys a larger one-time audience than all other Canadian news and public affairs media, announced today that it has launched a digital edition, coinciding with its 100th anniversary. Beginning with the centennial issue of the magazine unveiled earlier this week, the digital edition is being offered in conjunction with Zinio, LLC, the worldwide leader in digital publishing and marketing services.

"Since the first issue in 1905, Maclean's has been about keeping our eyes fixed forward, and our readers have been among the first to embrace new technologies," said Ken Whyte, Maclean's Publisher and Editor-In-Chief. "The millions of readers in Canada and around the world who look forward to reading the quality reporting, opinion and analysis Maclean's offers will welcome our digital edition."

"This is a natural extension of the Maclean's brand," said Deborah Trepanier, Associate Publisher and General Manager. "By launching Maclean's digital, we are offering readers a digitized product identical in every way to Maclean's print edition, but one which international readers, in particular, will receive much more quickly than the print edition. The enhanced distribution will also increase our advertisers' reach to consumers, and could provide additional advertising sales opportunities."

The digital version is an exact digital replica of the print version of the magazine. Readers will not miss a single article, photo or ad.

Maclean's readers around the world can buy a digital subscription by logging on to www.macleans.ca/digitalmag. Beginning Oct. 11, a subscription will be delivered instantly via the internet through a download to a PC, laptop or Mac. Digital copies will be received by subscribers automatically each week and can be read online or offline.

The digital edition premiered on October 3 with the unveiling of the centennial issue of Maclean's. Reported by Allen Abel, the heart of the special edition is "The Next 100 Years," a decade-by-decade account of one child's journey to 2105.

"Maclean's holds a special place in the Canadian media marketplace, so this is a big first for digital delivery," said Scott L. Kauffman, President and CEO of Zinio. "The creation of Maclean's digital edition is a strong endorsement of Zinio's ability to generate new readers in this dynamic medium."

Zinio delivers 95% of all digital consumer magazine circulation globally and has more than 3 million subscribers in nearly every country in the world.
